Tuesday, October 7, 2025 — polling places open 6:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m. (If you’re in line by 7:30 p.m., you can vote.)

Early voting runs Thu, Sept 18 – Sat, Oct 4 (ends 3 p.m.). Election Day is Tuesday, Oct 7.

Plain-language tip: During early voting, you can vote at any early-voting site in Franklin County, and eligible people can register and vote the same day (bring proof of address).
3) Absentee / Vote-by-Mail (request, deadlines, return & tracking)
How to request a ballot (two ways)
Online portal (recommended): votebymail.ncsbe.gov → “Request an Absentee Ballot.”
Paper form & instructions: Vote By Mail page (NCSBE) → download the 2025 absentee request form and follow the steps. Please return it to the Franklin County BOE
Key deadlines — October 2025 municipal election (Louisburg)
Request deadline: 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
Return deadline: Your completed ballot must be received by the county by 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2025 (Election Day). Postmark no longer guarantees counting—it must arrive by 7:30 p.m.
How to complete & return (important rules)
Witness requirement: Fill out your ballot in front of two (2) adult witnesses or a notary. Witnesses (or notary) must sign your return envelope. (This requirement is in state law.)
Photo ID: Include a photocopy of an acceptable photo ID or complete the ID Exception Form provided in your packet. See Voter ID for what IDs are accepted and how to get a free county-issued voter ID.
Return options:
By mail (use correct postage; allow extra time).
In person: You or a near relative may return your ballot to the county BOE office during business hours, or to any early-voting site during the early-voting period. You cannot return a ballot to a polling place on Election Day.
